Ability to offer terminally ill patients some treatments in their home
Therapeutic experience includes: solid tumours, melanoma and rare conditions
Project Managers and CRA’s who are experts within oncology
colorectal, head and neck and ovarian cancers, melanoma and other rare tumours such as glioblastoma. We have also worked in most haematological malignancies.
A number of our project managers as well as CRAs and home research nurses have substantial backgrounds in oncology clinical trials. Illingworth provides chemotherapy administration within the patient’s home for terminal cancer studies.
One example of a trial we have worked on is a Phase 1 open label dose escalation study. This was to determine the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of the trial drug. Patients with advanced solid tumours where anti-angiogenic agent use was appropriate were eligible to participate in sequential cohorts. This involved treatment with daily subcutaneous injections 5 times per week, Monday - Friday.
Because it would have been incredibly challenging for these patients to get to site every day in this case our nurses were able to support the trial by administering four of the injections mentioned above in the patient’s own home. Three UK sites were identified to run the study, which our nurses worked closely with to ensure the best possible patient care.
